BUZZER BEATER

HISTORY:
Buzzer Beater is manga series by Takehiko Inoue. The series debuted on the web and was later published in print format by Shueisha, being serialized in its Monthly Shounen Jump manga magazine. It can be read on Inoue's website in Japanese, English, Chinese, and Korean.

Buzzer Beater is Inoue's second manga to focus on basketball, following his very successful second manga series, Slam Dunk. The name of the manga comes from the term used for when a basket is scored at the same moment a period or the game itself ends. The story revolves around a basketball team from Earth assembled to participate in an intergalactic basketball competition. The web comic is released in four languages.

The original Japanese web comic is on Inoue's site, just like the others. All text in the talk bubbles was manually written by Inoue, although altered in the foreign adaptions, specifically for translation. The English translation leaves all the the Japanese sound effects untranslated. None of the manga is edited. The manga's Korean translation has a completely different designed page, also replacing the Japanese sound effects with a Korean translation drawn by Inoue. The same translation was serialized in Daiwon C.I.'s manhwa magazine; Comic Champ, also published under its Champ Comics line. The Chinese translation is directly translated from the Korean one.

Buzzer Beater is also Inoue's second manga series to have been adopted into an anime. A 13 episode TV series was produced by TMS Entertainment and premiered on WOWOW from February 5, 2005 ending its run on May 7, 2005. A second 13 episode series, continuing the story and also animated by TMS, premiered on NIPPON TELEVISION on July 4, 2007 and ended its run on September 26, 2007. Both anime adaptations were supervised by Inoue. The anime series includes story elements and characters that were either hinted at or did not originally appear in the manga.

PLOT/SUMMARY:

(BUZZER BEATER)

Hideyoshi is a homeless boy living in New York in the near future, who survives by hustling other kids in basketball games. But now he's been drafted into a pro team-a pro team with a very unique goal. There once was a time when humans dominated the game of basketball. But times have changed, and now the physically superior alien players have taken over the game, and there are barely any human players next. But Hideyoshi's team-the first all-human team to compete in the Space League-intends to change all that, and bring the championship back home to Earth.

(BUZZER BEATER 2007)

After being drafted into the Earth Team - a basketball team comprised solely of humans - street-punk-turned-pro Hideyoshi couldn't be more cocky. The team is still up against the Gorons, a physically superior race of aliens who have dominated the game for some time. New challenges and problems stand in their way. Hideyoshi is unhappy with the team and the Gorons have new tricks up their sleeves.

Episode: 13(Buzzer Beater) February 5, 2005 - May 7,2005

13(Buzzer Beater 2007) July 7, 2006 - September 26, 2007

OVERALL RATING: 8/10

Story: 8/10

Well i am now commenting on the story. The Story so far is good but there is something that i don't like. Aliens are involved in the story(hahahaha). That's kind of wierd right? But at first i thought it was weird. However, when i was already watching the anime....wow!...It's good!. But i rather choose if they didn't involved those aliens that the protagonist played in the match.

Length: 8/10

What should i say about the length?...hmmmm...26 episode is already long for me but 26 episode is not fitted for Buzzer Beater. I want more!....The matches are short but entertaining.

Drawing/Design: 7/10

Wow!...when i saw the design of the characters, i was astonished but that was for the design of the humans and the environment. However, when i saw the designs of the aliens...baaaaah..what the hell..aliens that have horns?..So the disappointment in this anime is the design of the aliens. It's weird...
